This term the school’s inquiry theme is space and last week we went to a space dome and we had an expert who came to talk to us about space. These are my recounts.
Space!
On the 8th of May 2018 Drummond School went to the Oreti Hall with Richard and the space dome was there! When room 4 went in we were not allowed to touch the wall because our fingers would mess up the pictures that were projected onto the surrounding ceiling. It was not that interesting because I know most of the facts. But it was funny because I could hear Josh even though he was on the other side of the room. The thing that made this possible was the shape of the dome. The thing I enjoyed the most was that there is a high percentage that we are not alone in the universe!
On the 9th 2018 of May Mr Esler came and that was the best part of the week because he had a rocket fuel tank made of titanium, one of the strongest metals on earth. He also had a real asteroid that looked like coal. He had a model spaceship that showed how rockets disassembled in space.

Elijah @ Drummond School
I am a student at Drummond School. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

Pet Portrait
Pet Portrait ( with words)
This week room 4 had to do a pet portrait this is mine I hope you enjoy.
WALT:
Describe techniques authors use to identify specific language features
Activate nouns to as a language device
Describe pets - using the picture as a talking point, framing the responses as activated nouns,
Use sentence beginners with a sub-ordinating conjunction
It’s oval, hairy body connects the head to the tail. The four 25 cm leg's are good at jumping on a couch for a cuddle. When you look at it’s deep black eyes you will instantly fall in love. As a red droopy slobbery tongue comes out of the round head and licks you on the face. There is a 10 cm nose with a mouth below it. If you are being annoying to it it will show it’s sharp teeth and growl at you. Her straight fluffy neck is fun to cuddle with. I like its cute floppy ears hang down.
It has 2 cm coal like black hair all over. There is a white strip running down the neck. When I pat her smooth fur my hand guides fast across her body. As I say “shake” her painful hook claw hits my hand. If you look at her fur you will see it is lying down like hair tied up panytail. I like the feel of her soft silky skin when I rub her tummy.
As soon as she see her food she will bark with excitement. When she is having the leftover lump milk she the growl at will at the lumps. My pet creates a high pitched growl when someone goes near her biscuits. After her morning run she is breathing hard. If my pet got attacked she would whimper. She sniffs loudly when she see someone she doesn't know.
We all love her

elijahs Character portraits
This week room4 had to right a righting about a special person in our life that doesn't stay at your home so I did my teacher/principal because I felt she was easy to do.
We had to write specifically about skin, face, hair, voice, actions and personality. I hope you enjoy.
Her smooth tanned skin shines, when the sun hits it. The clean soft white skin stretches out where the veins hit. Her rose red skin moves, when she is laughing at me and josh’s arguments. The perfume small hitting us like wind. The wrinkles on her feet going flat when she is walking around.
The big smile every day, as I walk through the door in the morning. The friendly look on her face smiling, when she is taking at assembly. The red lips being covered in crumbs at lunch when she eats. Her forehead wrinkles are sitting like a racetrack. The rose red checks going white again after a while of laughing like a little kid.
Her long dark hair waving at the bean table every day. Her black smooth hair is always tidy for us in the morning. The perfect straight hair slowly, turning gray whenever I look at her. Her never tied up hair scratching her back when she is talks to us. When I look very carefully I see some little red streaks, running through the hair like a blood flowing through the veins.
Her voice is engaging you to do all your work on time. The calming voice takes away my stress at writing. Her funny voice tells funny jokes, to are school. Her interesting voice telling us what to do at assembly. The way she slowly tells us what, to do at a year 6 outing. Her medium pitched voice talking calmly when, we do something wrong. Her fast movement speed when she needs to do something quickly. When she is listening to a boring story she put her hand on her checks. When her nose is itchy she itches the outside of her nose with her knuckle.
I remember her the most because she is my teacher. She influences others by encouraging room4 to finish to finish ther novel study, and writing . This person is special because she is my favorite teacher/principal and she works, hard for our school . The thing I treasure the most about her is that she is loyal to what she does. I think she is the best person to do because she is nearly alway near me to help me - I just need to look at her, even though sometimes she makes me use two popsicle sticks sometimes so I trade these in and can only ask for help two times!

the fog
I am learning to create an image in my mind, with a noun ( frost) depicting the weather at this time of year in Southland.
I am then learning to write a description for this image, using strong, appropriate and effective verbs to activate the nouns and one or two similes.
When I awake, it has appeared like a white cloud dropping instantly to the ground
It covers our paddocks like a thick fluffy blanket, sheep camouflaged instantly
Bright headlights of the cars shimmer through the blanket of white, instantly warning of their presence like a lighthouse guiding incoming boats
A once silver and black trampoline, merged with the wooden fence
Fog appearing, like a white cloud dropping instantly to the ground
